Recent Recap

I finished my 3rd year rotations on Friday, June 1st and began my 4th year rotations on Monday, June 4th. It's been a while since I've posted.. so here's what I've been up to!

Went to a birthday dinner for my friend Mike at a Japanese restaurant, and then afterwards we watched Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer. While there, I ran into my good friends, the Simpsons, and decided to take a picture with them:

Hangin' with the bigger-than-life famous family

Amara's mom was in town for a few days, so I thought it would be nice to make dinner for them. I decided to make some pork/shrimp water dumplings from our family recipe. They were a big hit:

Yummy, yummy, yummy, we've got goodies in our tummy

On our 1-year anniversary, Amara wanted to take me to go driving at the Malibu Grand Prix, but we didn't end up going because it was raining. Fortunately, we got the chance to go just before I left for California:

Our cool helmets make us both look like Speed Racer

After my Internal Medicine sub-internship rotation ended up June 29, I flew down to San Diego the next day to attend the wedding of one of my high school friend, Lisa:

Like me, both of them are going to be doctors. She's getting a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan and he's getting an MD/PhD from Duke University. Impressive!

Me with the happy couple

That same weekend, my whole family got together for the first time since sometime last year. As usual, we went out to eat dim sum. With our busy schedules, it's sad how rarely our entire family can be together, so decided to take some family pictures:

My brother is king at picture perfect posed smiling.. actually, we're all pretty good at it

On our way up to visit our friends Annie and Sean, Jenn treated me to an Original Blended Iced Coffee from the Coffee Bean, which I must say, was the best blended iced coffee I've ever had:

Sipping on pure, ice-cold coffee smoothness

While hanging out with Annie, we had lunch at Olive Garden since the Japanese place we wanted to go to - GoRo - was closed (it was July 4th):

At this point, I was pretty stuffed

After lunch, we played some Guitar Hero and Karaoke Revolution before going to San Marino to watch fireworks. It was pretty warm, but I managed to cool down with a tasty snow cone:

The fireworks were an impressive showing, probably because we were in a more wealthy part of town. Jenn managed to capture some of the action on her camera:

Happy 4th of July!

Sadly, I don't really have any more pictures for what happened during the next two weeks, even though there was a lot of fun stuff..

The following weekend, my parents and I drove up to the Bay Area so that they could spend some time with my aunt, grandma, and great uncle/aunt, while I was able to visit old friends. On our way up, we stopped in L.A. for lunch and to visit my brother who is living there for the summer and taking summer school. When we got up to the Bay Area, we had dinner with my aunt and grandma at a fancy Italian restaurant. After dinner, I left my parents and drove over to Jerki's, who are always very welcoming and hospitable to let me stay with them when I'm in the Bay Area. On Saturday, I visited Amara's parents and we had a picnic while watching her brother umpire a little league playoff baseball game. It was nice getting to spend some time with them in the afternoon. Afterwards, I had takeout Hooters wings for dinner with Jerki and JChan. Unfortunately, I was pretty sunburned from the afternoon, so I was very sleepy and had a bad headache. The next day, I went to church with Jerm at LSCC, then had lunch at Pasta Pomodoro with LSCC, and then visited my cousin who's a interventional radiology fellow at Stanford. She was touting the benefits of a career in radiology, which was fine, but not really for me. I then had dinner with Jon and Frances at Chili's, and then Jerm and I went for a late (10pm) showing of Transformers. What an awesome movie! I left the next morning to pick up my parents to head back to San Diego. Yummily, we had Yoshinoya (at the good one in Cupertino) for lunch before leaving the Bay Area.

When we got back, my life was pretty much a blur because of being home for most of it and just eating, sleeping, and studying (not necessarily in that order):

Hopefully, I did well on Step 2..
