Fun Fun Weekend
It's been a busy and long week (I'm doing a surgery rotation in which we have 12-13 hour-long days that start around 5:30am), hence this post about last weekend is coming out a week later. Fortunately, Amara got back a couple of weeks ago and we've been able to spend some quality time together.
On Friday night, we had a planning meeting of the Christian Medical & Dental Association for the upcoming school year. Afterwards, Amara and I drove up to Vancouver, WA (about 20 minutes north of Portland) to an Elk's Lodge where they were hosting a free swing dancing night. Amara's a super stellar dancer, and a good teacher, too! It was my second time trying to do the Lindy Hop, which I find to be a tricky/fast type of swing. She was very patient with me and showed me some cool moves.
On Saturday, we took a trip out to the Oregon coast and visited Lincoln City, where there are lots of good outdoor activities including hiking. We decided to take a trail in the Cascade Head National Scenic and Research Area which led to a great view of the Salmon River and the Pacific Ocean. It was a beautiful day for a hike. That night, we visited some of Amara's good friends from college, had dinner with them, played games, and then just chatted a bit. Since George Fox University (Amara's alma mater) was on the way back to Portland, we stopped there and she took me on a wonderful evening tour of her campus.
On Sunday, we went to church at Imago Dei in the morning, where the message was a special dialogue/conversation between Don Miller (author of Blue Like Jazz) and John MacMurray (photographer) about the intersection of theology and photography. It was very timely in light of our trip to the coast where Amara and I had just witnessed some of the awesome beauty of God's creation the day before. After church, we loaded our bikes and drove to a park nearby for a nice ride into town. We biked quite a ways and eventually found our way to Amara's old neighborhood where she grew up. Considering that neither of us had biked in a long time, it was good, fun exercise.
Here are some pics of the fun stuff we did last weekend:
