Life is Beautiful

Pizza, Pizza

On Friday night, we went to CPK for some pizza and salad. I haven't been to a CPK in quite a while, and there's only one location in the greater Portland area. We split the Original BBQ Chicken Chopped Salad and a Vegetarian with Japanese Eggplant pizza. They were both quite tasty, which is just how I remembered CPK to be. Afterwards, we rented "The Power of One" since it was recommended as a inspirational movie based on a true story. The film follows the life of an English boy who grows up in South Africa during the time of institutionalized discrimination and depicts how he becomes a force in reaching the masses through education and breaking down barriers between previously divisive tribes. Many of the scenes were quite saddening and evoked strong feelings of injustice. In that way, it was successful in moving the viewers (us). For that reason, I would recommend watching it if you haven't seen it yet.

Church and Brunch

On Sunday, we went to church with Jenn (who was visiting from Seattle for Memorial Day Weekend) at Imago Dei. The message was on being "living sacrifices," based on Romans 12:1-3. Interestingly, the Greek word Paul chooses to use in describing "bodies" is not the word for "flesh" that he uses elsewhere, but one for "the whole person." So, the application for us is to be dedicating all of ourselves (mind, body, spirit) towards being holy and pleasing to God. After the service, we met up with a whole bunch of people (a total party of 9) for brunch at Mother's Bistro, a popular restaurant downtown. I (along with 3 others) had the wild salmon hash, which was delicious! It wasn't on purpose, but it turns out that I happened to be the only person there who knew everybody else there beforehand. All in all, it was fun to get together with people (especially those of us who haven't seen each other much because we've been studying a lot for the board exam) and enjoy a good meal.

Skate, Skate

Sunday afternoon, we decided to go ice skating at the Lloyd Center. Ice skating is a great way to spend time talking and holding hands while still getting some exercise, unlike some other activities such as walking (which is nice, but not as fun) or running (which precludes the whole holding hands part). To follow up the chillingly fun experience, we had some of the country's best (frozen) yogurt at TCBY and played a game of I-spy (something I never played while growing up). She spied something silver that started with the letter "s" (that turned out to be a star cut-out in a display case), while I spied something blue that started with the letter "p" (that turned out to be a Pepsi advertisement banner). If you've played the game, you know that you can ask up to 10 yes/no questions to discover the spied item. The funny thing about how my mind works is that I wanted her to ask if what I spied was "something refreshing," to which I would've been able to answer with an enthusiastic "yes!" But in the game of I-spy, who would even think to ask, "is it something.. refreshing?" Apparently, only me.. heh.
