Faith and Science
This past weekend, I attended a Christian Medical and Dental Association retreat in Cannon Beach. The theme for the conference was "The Perfect Partnership: Faith, Science and ‘Medicine,’" and it featured speakers talking about science revealing the fingerprint of God, faith at the bedside, the practice of compassion, and more. I really enjoyed the talks by Dr. Gary Ott, MD (a Christian cardiothoracic surgeon) because his presentations offered some good evidence of the implausibility of evolution as a mechanism for life as we recognize it. But more than that, he gave a separate presentation analyzing a few studies on the role of physicians in providing spiritual care to patients.
Amazingly, there were ~100 mph winds accompanying the storm that came on Friday night, but fortunately, the weather after that was quite good. The food at this conference was also very good. On Saturday night, there was a talent/skit portion. The show was composed mostly of kids performing on musical instruments and some people sharing jokes/humorous stories with the group.
After the conference was over on Sunday, some of us enjoyed the pleasant weather and took a walk along the beach before heading back to Portland. I didn't end up taking pictures during the conference, but here are a couple from our walk on the beach:
