Happy Chinese New Year!
All last week, I was thinking that I should call my mom this weekend and wish her a Happy Chinese New Year. But then on Friday, I realized that she wasn't going to be home (because she's in Taiwan visiting my dad for, duh, Chinese New Year's). So much for that plan..
On Saturday, I was invited to a classmates' house for dinner with her family and a couple other classmates. It was nice to have a good, Chinese-style homecooked meal. We even had the black moss or "hair vegetable" dish, which in Cantonese is called "fat choy." It's traditionally consumed on New Year's to symbolize prosperity, but apparently, the sale of it is illegal because it's getting over-harvested. Kind of makes me wonder how they got it, but whatever.
After dinner we were browsing through this book that tells your fortune for the coming year based on when you were born according to the Chinese zodiac. Supposedly, I'll be having a pretty good year career-wise, but love-wise, since I'm single, I'll most likely stay single. Also, I'm supposed to watch out because some physical harm is bound to come to me. A way to prevent more serious harm would be to intentionally "hurt" myself by donating blood or something like that.
