C&C Weekend Factory

Got some quality camping at the coast this weekend. The Oregon coast is quite beautiful, and it was only about an hour and a half away. Drove over on Friday night and met up with about 20 classmates at Cape Lookout State Park, located about 12 miles south of Tillamook. That night, we stayed up late hanging around the campfire and just talking. The next day, we were off on a brisk 2.3 mile (each way) hike. Before heading back, we stopped by Pelican Pub & Brewery for some lunch and beach-time. Good times.. =)

Here I am overcoming adversity

Hip Hip Parade

On a whim, a friend and I headed out to spectate the Portland Rose Festival's Starlight Parade on Saturday night. I've never attended a parade before (at least, not that I can remember), so this was fun. I like how it highlights city pride and just brings people together, full of smiles. Afterwards, we scoped out the Waterfront Village where there was (essentially) a carnival, complete with food, rides, and games. We each ended up losing $5 trying to win this big 'n ugly cow stuffed animal as a sort of gag gift for a fellow classmate from Montana (where, by some estimates, cows outnumber people 4-to-1). I need to practice carnival game skills. Those should be added to Napoleon Dynamite's list:
"You know, like nunchuck skills, bowhunting skills, computer hacking skills... Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills."
Flame Retarded

After church today, we planned on having some breakfast at Byways Cafe, but because of the wait, we decided to eat at Manzana Grill (where I've eaten before with OD, Superman, Jerm, & Niki when they were up here). Last time I was there, this item on the menu caught our attention:

"All-You-Can-Eat Chicken & Dumplings" tender roasted rotisserie chicken, garden vegetables, mushroons, herbs, and fresh garlic slowly simmered in a creamy sauce with light, handmade buttermilk dumplings. (available Sunday only) 11.95
But, since it wasn't a Sunday, I couldn't partake.. until today!

Interestingly, when the food first arrived, the fire alarm at the restaurant started going off, and so we were evacuated for a little while. While waiting outside, the manager came out and apologized for the delay and let us know that lunch was on the house. What a blessing! Not that I couldn't afford lunch, but it was a nice occurrence. We left a pretty nice tip before leaving (after all, the service was excellent). And how were the chicken and dumplings? Delicious! Even though the sauce was more like gravy (as opposed to chowdery), it was still very yummy (ultra flavorful) and filling.
