Write Out
With a 5-page paper due tomorrow that I haven't yet started on, I decided to warm up by posting about a couple of items..
Normalized
Met up with Lisa and her boyfriend Tom (visiting from Duke) for brunch on Sunday at Tom's Pancake House (no relation to the Tom we were dining with). Ordering the "Lo Carb Mixed Grill" (which comes with 2 bacon, 2 sausage, and a 2-egg cheese omelette) with a side of hashbrowns effectively reversed any hint of "lo carb" and made my meal quite normal. While eating, we talked about sleep so much that a post-brunch nap was in order for the both of them (having plenty of studying to do myself, I was relegated to the land of consciousness).
Out of Taste
My car has never been driven to the point of running out of gas, but I have.. on my run earlier today. Living on a hill has its disadvantages when it comes to choosing a suitable running course. Basically, I always have to spend the first part of my run going way downhill, and then finish going way uphill. I ran about 3/4 of a mile downhill, another 1/4 mile on flat terrain, and then started going back uphill. About a 1/2 mile into it, my legs started to feel as heavy as tree trunks and I just didn't have the gusto (Spanish for "taste") in me to keep running. So I walked the rest of it, thinking to myself, "Man, running on hills sucks. I need to kick my training into high gear if I'm gonna prevent myself from sucking big time at the Helvetia 10k run that's in 2 1/2 weeks.."
Spondyl Doctor
"Spondyl" is Greek for "spine," and used medically, it's how terms like spondylosis and spondylolisthesis come to be. I had my last day of preceptorship with an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in spine surgery. It's been cool to spend Tuesday afternoons with him in clinic. As a result, I've seen a lot of scoliosis patients and people with back/leg pain. For a thank you present, I bought him a Rubik's cube since he has a bunch of mind boggler/brainteaser type items on his shelf. And what's more mind boggling than the classic 3x3 Rubik's cube (besides the 4x4 one), especially if you don't know how to solve it (which I do)?
 Me and Dr. Keenen
What a Crock
Recently, I bought 2 Banquet Crock-Pot Classics frozen complete meals since they offered a good amount of food (almost 3 pounds worth) for a good price (on sale for $5.99). But looking at the preparation directions, I didn't realize that it would take over FOUR HOURS to cook. Dang, not only am I hungry NOW but I don't even own a "crock-pot." What was I thinking? I'm going to try and use my trusty Tatung rice cooker for this. If I start cooking it now, I figure it'll be ready to enjoy by the time I finish working on my paper, which I will officially begin writing after I get dinner-2 (I already had dinner-1 at 7pm, before my run, so now I'm getting hungry again) going. I hope it's good!
