States of the Union

For our Principles of Clinical Medicine course, we need to read the book "The Anatomy of Hope" by next Wednesday and write a paper on it.

Seeing how it is hard to read a book without being in possession of it, I decided to check one out from the public library. Using Google, I found the Portland library website at www.portlandlibrary.com, searched their catalog, and was happy to find a copy of it available at the Burbank library branch. So, I clicked on a link to give me the directions to that branch, but alas, the address could not be found by either Google Maps or Yahoo Maps. In retrospect, I should've figured something was up from multiple clues. First, I had never heard of a town called Burbank around here (although, I'm still fairly ignorant of a lot of places in Oregon, so that might not be the best indication). Second, the area code of the phone number for the branch library was 207, not the traditional 503 as it is here. Third, look at the picture of the library branch:

Doesn't that look a bit too colonial for being out in the Northwest? Seems like something you'd find more on the East Coast somewhere..

As it turns out, I was at the website for the Portland library.. in Maine! I got tricked because I'm a dumbo (fellow, not elephant). Anyway, I quickly rectified the situation by going to the correct library website for Multnomah County (Portland, OREGON), locating the book, heading to the central branch, signing up for a library card, and bringing that puppy home. I am not the proud owner of Jerome Groopman's "The Anatomy of Hope" (for 21 days) and a library card that works all around the greater Portland area.
