And I'll Remember

Wining..
Had a two-hour wine appreciation course on Friday evening, which was quite educational (and tasty, and inebriating). We got to drink ample samples of various white and red wines from all over the world. Essentially, the idea behind an deal wine comes down to balance, in terms of aroma, dryness, sweetness, acidity, and tannin. But, of course, there is the element of personal preference, which, in the end, will tend to dominate choices anyway.

..and Dining
A high school friend who works at Google in New York is in town for a conference on human-computer interaction. I had a nice time meeting up with him over some Thai cuisine at Typhoon! in the Pearl District and then heading over to the Coffee People coffee shop for some more chatting time.

The Power of Being Powerless
Computers don't detract from my productivity, just ones that have a wide variety of TV programming available on them. As it turns out, since my power wasn't quality on Friday and Saturday, I was "forced" to leave my apartment and use on campus computing resources. It ended up being a powerfully productive time, mostly because I didn't end up just sitting there *vegging* in front of my monitor. Not only did I get a bunch of stuff done for our student research project, but I also finished my proposal for a summer clinical research project on Parkinson's disease.

Going Nuts
No, not because of being sick or my electricity situation (thankfully, both of which have since resolved themselves for the most part). Rather, I bought a pound of whole, roasted, unsalted cashews (see first definition) from Trader Joe's today. The BEST snack, being so flavorful on account of their high fat content.
