It Is Good
Excerpt taken from Soul Journey, devotional

There's an interesting short story about a tribal king who loved hunting with his faithful assistant. Whenever something happened, whether good or bad, the assistant had a habit of saying, “It is good.”

On one hunting trip, the assistant accidentally pulled the trigger of his rifle and blew off the little finger on the king’s left hand. As the king screamed in pain, the assistant said, “It is good.” So the king threw him in prison.

On the next hunting trip, the king wandered into unfamiliar territory and was caught by cannibals. The cannibals had a strange superstition—they would not eat anyone who was not complete. So when they found that the king’s left little finger was missing, they let him go.

The king realized that his assistant had been right. So he went to the prison and told the man what happened and finished by saying, “I am sorry that I threw you in prison.” The man said to the king, “It is good.” The king could not understand and asked him why. The man said, “If I had not been in prison, I would have been out hunting with you.”
