Lots o' Stuff

Wrongly Aced?

Played Texas Hold 'Em poker with some LSF Friday peeps. We started with 9 people, 6 guys and 3 girls. Interestingly, the three girls lasted the entire game, with them finishing in the top three spots by the end of the night. I lost early on in a hand in which I started with a pocket pair of kings. On the flop, my kings found their lost brother, making three. I went all in, and ended up losing to three-of-a-kind aces. Thinking back on that hand (at this very moment), though, I just realized that I shouldn't have lost that hand. Perhaps someone else present that night can vouch for me, but the community cards ended up having 2 aces and 1 king. HS had 1 ace in her hand, making the three-of-a-kind aces hand. But that means, my best five-card hand with my two cards plus the 2 aces and 1 king on the table would've been a full house (a very powerful hand), kings over aces. Right? Anyway.. no biggie.. we weren't playing for money or anything..

Traffic Violator School

I spent the entire day on Saturday sitting in the boring trenches of traffic school. Realistically, I didn't really learn anything new. Sad, because it was such a nice day outside and I was stuck inside, spending $30 and trying hard not to fall asleep.

Hot Domestics

Saturday night, some of us made our way to the San Mateo Expo Center to check out Hot Import Nights, a car show. We went to visit Jerm, who was showing his 1996 Mercedes Benz C36 AMG (with plenty of other mods). His car looks tight. But if you've ever been to a "car show," you'll know that the cars are only half the story. It's also a place for girls to work on their modeling careers by taking pictures with cars and such. Unlike the cars, which were mostly imported, the models were arguably all domestic, being from various places in the U.S. Anyway, I felt like I "clicked" with the prettiest model there because I got to joke around with her and she was all smiles.. =)

Some highlights of the show for me:

Scissor-doors on a fixed up Toyota Camry

Me and the girl in pink (she was more than just a pretty face, very friendly too!)

(if the pics don't show, try refreshing the page several times.. plus, i have plenty more pictures of cars, and girls.. so, if you're interested, just e-mail me.. i have a Google G-mail address, too! it's my regular alias "_______@gmail.com")

Caught Up

We all need a weekend of some sort, a time to catch up on sleep that's been lost. Having lost sleep with 18-hour days (chock full of activities) since Wednesday of last week, I went to bed extra early yesterday (close to 7pm) and managed to get 12+ hours stored up. This should last me for another week or so..

(Biblical) Anger Management

Had a guest speaker at CFC on Sunday speak on the topic of anger. According to Easton's Bible Dictionary, anger is:

"The emotion of instant displeasure on account of something
evil that presents itself to our view. In itself it is an original
susceptibility of our nature, just as love is, and is not necessarily
sinful. It may, however, become sinful when causeless, or
excessive, or protracted (Matt. 5:22; Eph. 4:26; Col. 3:8).
As ascribed to God, it merely denotes his displeasure with
sin and with sinners Ps. 7:11)."

Anger is a powerful emotion, one that can stir a person to actions they will regret. The best solution is to resolve the issue behind the anger instead of trying to "use up" the negative energy. Tapping into it is like drinking from a bottomless well, but instead, imagine that the well is filled with gasoline and suppose that you as an angry person are on fire. It may fuel your flames, but in the end, you will end up burning yourself up and hurting other people around you.

Double-Take

Went to the In-N-Out at the Mercado shopping center in Santa Clara for lunch today at 1:30pm. At the mention of "dessert" by my co-worker, I was reminded of free scoop day at Ben and Jerry's. So, in an operation resembling a jail-break, a bunch of us headed out to get some ice-cream. Went to the Ben and Jerry's at the Mercado shopping center in Santa Clara at 2:30pm. Sound familiar? As it turns out, I had to go to the same shopping center twice in the same day, one hour apart. I had Phish Food, which is good because it's a lot like Rocky Roads.

God's Grace

No entry is complete without a mention of God's grace for me. To be honest, I don't always notice or even appreciate it. But it's there, and I should.
