Supercut
I got a supercut (not to be confused with "Supercuts," which is a haircutting place) today at work. Super because of depth, not length. It was on this frozen tissue cutting machine called a cryostat. Besides being very cold inside, the other main feature of it is that the blades are very sharp! My hand slipped while making an adjustment, and consequently, I have a pretty deep cut on my right thumb.
(Disclaimer: people who dislike blood may not want to read the following paragraph)
The blade had sliced through my latex glove and into my finger. At first, I just looked at the sliced glove wondering if I had cut my skin. When the bleeding got quite profuse in my glove, I realized that it had. Fortunately, the sight of blood does not affect me much. Trying to clean my wound at the sink was futile since the blood kept flowing. Strange because my blood did appear thinner than usual. Like I had been drinking or something. But I haven't been. Despite just purchasing a nice bottle of Merlot (which reminds me a lot of Klingon blood-wine.. the look, not the taste) with my roommate at CostCo, it remains unopened at home.
Anyway, back to the supercut. After applying pressure for a couple of minutes, I had to use a make-shift bandage made with tissues and lab tape. My first attempt wasn't very good, with the tape not being long enough to reach around. My second attempt was a little better, but the thing was super bulky! Finally, I made one that was sizable and functional.
Later, I wanted to replace my homemade bandage with a real one. I couldn't find a decent bandage in the first aid kits throughout the lab (apparently, they're supplies have been bled dry, and yes, the pun was intended). I had to go downstairs to see if they had any. Had the darndest time finding a normal-sized bandage strip. They had every other weird shape.. bandages for knuckles, finger-tips, small patches, small/medium-sized strips, triangles, etc.. just not the regular ones. How peculiar.
When I get home tonight I'm gonna put on some of this Japanese ointment I have called Oronine which works miraculously on cuts. Despite being deep, this thing should be healed up in no time..
On a brighter note, I had a Yoshinoya large beef bowl for lunch. Yum!
