More Life in SD

Mr. Fix-It

I like fixing stuff, that is, if I am able to fix it. Growing up, I used to like taking things apart and putting them back together. With a basic understanding of mechanical parts, I was able to fix our 6-disc CD changer at home (which became mine since my parents had already bought another one to replace the "broken" one). There was other stuff, too, like fixing a leaky toilet and other minor home improvements. Anyway, the job I had yesterday was extra minor. Minor as in small. But nonetheless, still annoying. A screw came out from my brother's glasses. It would've been an easy job, except that the screw loop on his earpiece was spring-loaded, so it wouldn't stay aligned to allow the screw to get all the way through. With some rudimentary engineering, I managed to align the holes and keep them in place just long enough to stick that screw in and fasten the whole thing.

Pho Hoa Yobo

I'm not talking about rice-noodle here, but rather my barbershop experience. When I can, I try to get my haircuts down in San Diego because they are cheaper. The place I go to only charges $7, and it used to be even cheaper at $5 (but that was several years ago). I usually get this Vietnamese guy who cuts my hair. He's cool, but when he's done, he ends up slicking my hair back with gel. Makes me look like an Asian gangster.

Soggsville

Had a year-old Nestle Drumstick that I found in the freezer the other day. It was so soggy. I assumed it was safe to eat because it's been frozen this whole time. But from it's appearance, it most likely went through some freeze-thaw cycles. The nuts were all clustered in one area, the ice cream was not creamy at all, and the cone had the texture of a wet brown-paper bag. Fortunately, the piece of chocolate at the bottom still tasted good. It was enough to redeem the whole thing.
