Matters of the Heart
The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?
~Jeremiah 17:9 (NIV)
Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails.
~Proverbs 19:21 (NIV)
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
~Proverbs 3:5-6
A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
~Proverbs 17:22
Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.
~Psalm 37:4
In a way, all of us are "sick" with an incurable (at least by us) disease. I am no exception. It can mislead us and betray us. And somehow, it always seems to seek for its own benefit. Yet, in the end, only God's plan will succeed. The key then becomes reliance on God, not ourselves. Especially since our own capcity for understanding is so limited. Without Jesus, we were weak and without hope. But not anymore. Seeking the Lord will result in joyful heart, which is "good medicine." Note how the "cure" to our own hearts' disease is to abide in the Lord. Very interesting, indeed.
