Happy (and Gourmet) Thanksgiving!

Driving down to San Diego from Oakland was a relatively quick trip. Considering that we (Edena and I) left at about 10pm, had to make a stop for gas at around 1:30am, and I dropped her off in La Canada at 2:30am, I still managed to get home by 4:30am. Total trip time = 6.5 hrs. Not too bad.. I was super tired after dropping her off, so I'm quite thankful that I got here safely.

But you know, there's always lots to be thankful about, year round. It is only on the actual holiday, though, that people (generally, families) begin to gather for the specific purpose of recognizing those things that you cherish and value in your life. Health, family, friends, career, material possessions, etc.. those are the traditional things people treasure. Still, we must never forget the sacrifice that God made on the cross in His Son, Jesus Christ, to pay for our sins and to give us life everlasting and hope in this world. But it doesn't stop there, because God is continuously pouring out his blessings upon us. Being a Christian isn't the "high life" because of how great everything is, but it's the high life because of how we're called to live, with a higher purpose.

Anyway, this year, my parents went on a trip to Thailand, leaving us kids alone for Thanksgiving (this is the second time that this has happened). We don't mind, considering that we are fairly grown up and can (thankfully) afford to go to a nice place for dinner. Hence, our dining experience at Mille Fleurs, the #1 ranked French restaurant in San Diego.

My meal consisted of: (a prix fixe menu)

SOUP OF "MUSQUE DE PROVENCE" PUMPKIN WITH CINNAMON CROUTONS
***
SALAD OF SAUT?ED SHRIMP, ENDIVE, ARUGULA AND FENNEL WITH ORANGE GINGER DRESSING
***
OVEN-ROASTED DIESTEL FARM TURKEY WITH STUFFING, CRANBERRY SAUCE, BRUSSELS SPROUTS AND SWEET POTATO GRATIN
***
DARK CHOCOLATE AND PECAN TART SERVED WITH MIXED BERRIES AND CREAM SAUCE
***
COFFEE

It was quite delicious and exquisite, but at $54/person (not including tax/tip), this ranks up there as one of the most expensive meals I've ever had. Any money I saved by driving down (instead of flying) could go to pay for this meal. I'm OK with that, though, since both were intangible expenses (by next week, either expenditure will not have left me with any tangible product to signify my spending of money).
