Shout Outs

Originally, I was planning to write up another long entry just describing what I've been up to (and where I've been) for the past week. But, I decided that a simple catalog of what goes on in my life would be boring (if it's boring for you to read, just imagine how boring it was for me to write). Instead, I'm going to opt to write in a format where it's basically messages addressed to specific people. They may or may not read my blog (some people I know for sure that don’t read my blog), but from what I “tell” each of them, you can get a glimpse into what's been going on.

Dr. Quik: Thanks for inviting me to join the 1st Annual CCPDER (Collaborative Centers for Parkinson's Disease Environmental Research) Meeting in Napa Valley. The seminars and presentations were all very informative. The hotel accommodations (it was a Marriot!) were excellent (having my own room, complete with king-sized bed and all), and the food/wine/scenery were all wonderful. It was a nice change of pace from the daily grind of basic research.

Maia: Thanks for giving me a ride to the conference and back. Sorry I slept so much. It’s a good thing that you were able to get discounted gasoline at your husband’s company (it was like going to CostCo, but closer).

Mason (he’s like 10 yrs. old): Thanks for playing DDR Max with me at the wine & cheese tasting reception at your family's vineyard in Napa. I can show you some more cool stuff from Grand Theft Auto: Vice City if I ever in that area again (and invited to your house, which is highly unlikely since I don't really know you or your family very well). You allowed me to get away from the adults for a little while and have some fun.

Elaine: Good job with worship. I like being on your team because our practices don’t run too long, and musically, everyone is pretty talented.

Edena: First and foremost, congrats on getting a cell phone! And what a great deal, too! Glad that you are now accessible while out now.. Saw you all weekend at various events including lunch at the Rolling Dunes restaurant (thanks for the taters), football/frisbee-ing in memorial glade (may your finger be healed quickly!), and pretty much all of Sunday.

Eileen: “Looks like someone didn’t have their morning coffee yet.” The guy who said that to you didn’t know what he was talking about.. the way you looked and acted was just dandy. I know the football was a bit big for your hands, but by the end of the day, your throwing was getting pretty decent. We never got around to rotating and being on the same team for tennis.. maybe next time?

Susan: Sorry I stole your furikake (Japanese rice seasoning.. dried seaweed-based). I hope Eileen delivered that to you eventually. Thanks for letting me use your card to get gas at CostCo. It’s not as quality as 76, Chevron, or Shell, but definitely cheaper!

Jonathan: You have a good heart in giving that homeless guy your taco. I felt awkward and unable to offer anything since I was eating a salad. Props to your football skills and your behind-the-back frisbee-catching. Your comment about us “taking a risk with letting the girls choose a movie to watch” was hilarious (I’m sure some of the other guys were thinking the same thing).

Cindy: Thanks for organizing the karaoke. Apparently, the man of your life isn’t “irresistible” (Jessica Simpson) to you..hehe (your complacent reaction to our comments about Harvard was classic). I believe that $1.40 is too much to pay for a wooden spinning top (it’s a toy), but that’s just my opinion..

Frances: Nice haircut! =) Karaoke is always extra classy with someone like you singing the tunes. I’ve never seen you play tennis before, but I thought you were doing pretty well (Kevin should thank you for the good work-out you gave him). I commend you on the tasty choices you picked while in charge of ordering food for all of us during dinner at 168.

Tennis peeps (Dan, Eileen, Edena, Christine, Steve, Chia, Josh, Jenny, Jonathan, Frances, Albert, Kevin): I’m a bit sunburned, but we did a good job with taking over the Foothill tennis courts on Northside. Thanks to Edena for the liquid refreshment. I was impressed by the caliber of people playing. High-five to Christine (my doubles partner) who helped us narrowly edge-out Dan/Eileen (7-5) in our one set match.

Chia: I like your guitar.. it sounds good, is easy to play, and plus, it’s nice-looking (one day, I will be able to afford one just as nifty). Thanks for opening up your place for us to watch Two Weeks Notice and hang out. Even though I didn’t have any, I’m sure the watermelon was delicious and refreshing.

Evert: Welcome back.. good to see you again! Your power brought together so many people to hang out. Dinner at 168 and the movie were fun. I hope we didn’t exhaust you too much.. too bad we didn’t get to visit your room at HoJo’s. =( Perhaps next time? Good luck on the bar exam!

Dan: Spent plenty of time in the car and hanging out with you on Sunday. You placed some nice serves during tennis. That Persian burger you ordered looked extra good.. I should probably order that next time. You killed Josh in Backyard Baseball (such a cute N64 game).

Josh/Jenny: You guys are very fun to hang around. As the only married couple (so far) I’ve hung out with, you do a very good job with keeping things cool. I haven’t had Bongo Burger in so long.. good pick! Josh, too bad about your bumper (it seems you have bad luck about these kinds of things).
