Melanin

Webster's defines it as: "A black pigment found in the pigment-bearing cells of the skin (particularly in the skin of the negro), in the epithelial cells of the external layer of the retina (then called fuscin), in the outer layer of the choroid, and elsewhere. It is supposed to be derived from the decomposition of hemoglobin."

Basically, it's responsible for a person's skin color (or lack thereof). Lately, I've endured prolonged exposure to the sun which is causing me to get darker and darker. The contrast between my neck/arms and my "shirt" (the shape of a short-sleeved shirt on my body where sunlight does not penetrate) is steadily growing greater. Sans clothing, it still looks like I'm wearing a t-shirt, shorts, socks, and a watch (all a shade of off-white)..sad. The only real solution to this conundrum is to start doing stuff that takes several hours, while naked, during the day, when it's bright and sunny outside. The upside to being darker skinned is that I don't sunburn very easily (that, and I can disappear in a coffee tree forest by blending in with the trees).
