DareDevil
..no, I'm not referring to myself (although I'm not altogether inexperienced in living dangerously), but rather the comic book-based movie that is out in theaters right now. After the welcome ministry workshop on Sunday night, I went down to Union City and watched DareDevil with Jerm and Jenn. Jerm didn't like it, but I didn't think it was that bad. Definitely not as good as Spiderman, but there was good character development, a decent plot, lotsa action (kinda violent, though), and provided some memorable lines. Certain ones struck my fancy:
"A man without fear is a man without hope."
I don't necessarily agree with this, but I can see how it would be true. Someone without hope wouldn't have anything to hang on to that would make them want to live longer and preserve their own life. They could live fearlessly because they had nothing to live for. A hopeful man can also be fearless, though, if his hope is in the right something. For example, a Christian who puts his hope in Jesus Christ is a person that need not fear any harm that may come to them on earth because they know that they will live forever with God, even after all of the things of the world have passed away.
"I am the good guy."
Matthew Murdock (aka DareDevil) keeps reminding himself that what he is doing is right. DareDevil enforces retributive "justice" on those who have done wrong. Ironically, his vigilante ways indemnify him of guilt as well. It lends credence to when Kingpin (the main villain) says, "Nobody is innocent." Fortunately, Christians can be declared righteous before God by putting their faith in Christ, whose sacrifice on the cross has atoned for the sins of man.
