Don't watch the movie Solaris. Well, you can if you don't mind spending money on things you won't appreciate. I just watched it today with Winston, Jerry, Devina, and Ted..the movie is just plain weird. Here's my synopsis of the thing: the movie is set in the future, a future featuring video telephones and Sony Clies (a device in the movie bore striking resemblance to the popular PDA). Chris Kelvin (played for George Clooney) is a psychiatrist (I think), and he is called to help rescue some people who were on a mission to a weird place in space (it looks like a big planet, or maybe a strange small, bluish star) called Solaris. Apparently, the people on that mission haven't returned, and there's weird stuff going on the ship. Chris arrives to find only two people on board (everybody else is dead), one weird dude and a paranoid woman. Chris goes to sleep, has a long dream about his deceased wife, and wakes up finding his wife (who died several years ago) laying next to him. He can't believe she's actually there. It's not his imagination, but rather, Solaris is somehow able to use his memories and "create" her. He wants to take her back with them to Earth, but can't. He ends up staying on the ship while the other paranoid girl leaves. Solaris consumes the entire ship. The next scene, it appears Chris is back on Earth in his apartment. But he sees his wife there again. Now, he questions whether he is really dead or alive, and she responds, "that doesn't matter anymore..we have each other, and all is forgiven." The movie ends.

Did what I write make sense to you? Probably not, huh? And let me tell you, the movie makes even less sense...

Strange stuff. The lack of music and dialogue in large parts of the movie (all you hear is the silent rumbling that a spaceship would emanate) make it very conducive to sleeping (Winston can attest to that). None of us really knew what to think of it. All I can say is, when I watched the trailer on tv, the music from the preview sounded cool. Turns out, that song isn't even played during the movie..I guess I got tricked.
