Do any of you bench press? (it's like a push-up, but on your back, and you're pushing a weighted-bar, not the ground) I'm trying to get myself in better shape by losing some weight, but maintaining strength is important to me. Fortunately, I proved to myself yesterday that I still had it in me by benching quite a load. (I have to be careful, though, since I seem to get a little bigger everytime I work out, which is the opposite of what I want to have happening.)
But this reminds me of a time in high school when I used to work out at 24-Hour Fitness late at night (past midnight). One of my fortes was doing the decline bench press. So, one time while I was loading on a whole bunch of weights, this guy across the room kept eyeing me (no, he wasn't checking me out like that). After a while, I got the impression that he was looking at me because he didn't really think I could lift the amount of weight that I had loaded onto the machine (hence, he was waiting to see me lift it). That type of prejudgement of me is a real bugger. I don't like being underestimated, especially by someone who knows nothing about me except for my outward appearance. Anyway, I tore it up and busted out 3 reps of the weight (unfortunately, it wasn't a full set of 10, but in my defense, it was really really heavy and I used to be smaller back then). After that, I guess it seems that I had satisfied the guy, so he just left.
