"Annie, Annie are you OK?" I'm taking a CPR/First Aid course at work (it caused me to stay late at work until 7:30pm yesterday, after which I spent about 2 hours at the gym and was pretty much, no.. I was completely SPENT and devoid of energy). I've already been certified, but my certification from the American Red Cross expired a couple of years ago. This class was hosted by E.M.S. Safety Services (not the American Red Cross), so it saved us like $15, but it turns out our dummy was not a genuine "Annie" doll but rather an "Anne" (a clear attempt to avoid trademark infringement, like those generic cereals, use the tool under "other brands" and check out those knock-offs). It was good to refresh myself by taking this course. We watched this video, hosted by a guy who looks a lot like Henry Winkler (the guy who played the Fonz in Happy Days and co-produced MacGuyver, one of my favorite old school shows), that showed us all of these techniques. Three things: 1) they chose to reenact every scenario, including the choking victim one (which is never natural looking because of how the person starts suddenly choking and grabbing their neck.. I don't usually grab my neck when I'm choking.. plus, they didn't even show anything go in that person's mouth before the person started "choking"), 2) there was a token Asian girl as the mother of the infant who stopped breathing (why must there always be a random Asian person..? her husband in the scene was white..), and 3) the guy who was handling the CPR on the baby was way too complacent looking (I know that you're supposed to remain calm in emergency situations, but he almost looked like he had a smirk on his face.. kinda creeper-ish). The CPR training video and lecturing felt kinda like a meeting, so needless to say, I fell asleep for a part of it (besides, I already had a full day of work and it was getting late).
