Not as if you need another excuse to kill some time (reading blogs is enough of a distraction), but here's how you can play X-men vs. Street Fighter (for those of you out there who don't have Playstation or Dreamcast) on your PC. I got interested in this after reading Kevin's entries about playing the game with Carson. (Sidenote: Zangief is not useless in general, but is useless to human players. It's because most of his good moves require you to make a full circle, sometimes two. On a joystick, it's a hard skill to master, but for a control pad, it's nearly impossible. The computer doesn't have that problem. When it wants to do a spinning piledriver, all it has to do is send the command for it and it happens. Almost cheater-style as it were.)

I love Street Fighter. It's my favorite fighting game. No need for 3D-textured graphics or weapons or fancy scenery. Just cool cartoon characters with cool moves. My favorite character is Akuma. He's just like Ryu or Ken, but a bit slower, more strong, and he has more special moves. It's probably the evilness in him that makes him a good fighter. His best move is the "Raging Demon" which can only be done when you power up to Level 3. When you do it, he glides (not walks, not jumps) across the screen, grabs the opponent, and then there's like a big flash of light and you hear all of these punching/kicking noises, and when the light disappears, your opponent is on the ground with you standing over him. Because it takes over half your opponent's energy away, if you do it at the right time, you can finish a round with that. It's cool.

So, interested in playing yet? Here's what you need to get: a CPS-2 (Capcom Play System 2) emulator and the ROM (read only memory) file for the actual game. Just right click on the links to the left and choose to "Save As" or "Save Target As." Then unzip the CPS-2 emulator into some folder, move the "xmvsf.zip" file into that same folder, and run "FBA.EXE." Go to "File>Load Game," then click the "Rescan ROMS" button, and choose to play "X-Men vs. Street Fighter." The buttons are: 1=start, 5=select, a=jab, s=medium punch, d=fierce punch, z=short, x=medium kick, c=hard kick, and the arrow keys are the appropriate direction. Enjoy!
