Have you ever raced a police car on the freeway?
Me neither..and I don't recommend that you ever do it, because that would be dumb. But what if it happens by accident? The reason I bring this up is that on rare occasions, I drive at a brisk pace when coming home from places (i.e. Berkeley). This usually happens at late at night, and when you're the fastest car on the road, it is pretty noticeable when another car is approaching you from behind. So what do I do? I speed up. Yes, I punch it and pull away from that other car. If they decide to gas it up and pursue me, I interpret that as somebody's in the mood to race (fast and furious style), and I'm up for that. But the problem comes if that car is actually a form of law enforcement. Sometimes, you can't help but wonder if the car coming at you is the highway patrol, just without their siren lights on (at least not yet). It would be in that case, I could potentially end up racing a police car. That would be my bad. The subsequent discussion with the officer would be accompanied by a fat ticket citing reckless driving and endangerment. Perhaps, it is time for me to get a Valentine One (an excellent radar/laser detector).
