Care to compare how much you make versus how much you could be making? Check out Vault.com's Salary Wizard. Notable jobs include the Orthopedic Surgeon, who makes upwards of $300K per year (and that's the average salary). Lawyers make a good $150K per year. My income is a (tiny) fraction compared to them. Apparently, because I'm working at a non-profit institute, I'm making about 8 grand less per year than other people doing the same research-type stuff I do. To put it into perspective, "Cook, Institution or Cafeteria" in the Sunnyvale area makes just about as much as I do..and they don't even need a high school education. What a bummer..(j/k it doesn't really bother me).
